Albany Wool began out of a love for sheep and their beautiful wool.
Why choose wool?
Wool is such a beautiful natural fibre which has become undervalued. It breaks down naturally in the environment and can be used in so many wonderful ways…I often use any leftover wool to mulch my garden plants!
In the UK we have many breeds of sheep producing beautifully soft fleece, the Shetland sheep produces one of the finest, ideal for an array of wool crafts including spinning into yarn which is soft enough to be worn next to the skin.
Shetland wool comes in an amazing variety of natural colours meaning there are many combinations to try out when crafting with this versatile fibre!
Our Flock
We keep our small flock of Shetland sheep just outside Dunfermline, Fife. We have chosen our sheep specifically for their great fleece colour and it’s quality. The welfare of our sheep is our priority. Kept solely for their wool, we do all we can to make sure they are as healthy as possible and able to flourish, grow and live a long happy life doing whatever sheep love! I hope as a result they will continue to grow beautiful wool that will be turned into amazing woolly creations by you!…promoting this fantastic fibre so often undervalued in the UK.
